The Junior Doctors Association of
Government Medical College Srinagar and its Various associated
Hospitals, including S.M.H.S Hospital, Bone and Joints Hospital,
Chest Disease Hospital, Lal Ded Hospital among others have
decided to go on an indefinite strike from 06/06/2005 demanding
the removal of the Pay disparity in the Stipends of Post
graduate Students training in Associated hospitals of
Government Medical College Srinagar and those in SKIMS. The
Stipendiary Post Graduates of Government Medical
College Srinagar are given a paltry sum of Rs.8000 per
month where as those in SKIMS (Sheri-Kashmir
Institute of Medical Sciences, another PG Level Medical
Institution in Kashmir) are given a pay of Rs.18,000 per
month.
The Junior Doctors Association has
the support of all the Post graduates studying in the Associated
Hospitals of GMC Srinagar as well as the many House Surgeons/
House Physicians working in the hospitals. It has struck work in
the hospitals on a couple of previous occasions too with the
same demand. However the issue has not been resolved as yet.
